Fresh And Appealing Design

I'm always interested in what the newer or emerging designers are up to.  I guess the attraction is primarily freshness.  of course most of them have apprenticed with a well known name but that doesn't necessarily mean that they have adopted their mentor's style or creative ideas. For the emerging fashion designers, the primary problem is, of course, financing  and finding backers. The industry is notoriously hard to break in to and the fashionistas are very set in their ways.

Some of the labels I like to stay in touch with are Alice Roi, Collette Dinnigan and Erica Tanove.  Then there are the not so new designers who I really see eye to eye with .  For instance, Milly. Here's one of theirs - a really sweet LBD coming out right now in the Spring 2009 collection.  You can see it at Nordstrom's.  It's a  Milly 'Sundial Lace' Dress. You better take a look at this right now because it's on preview and in limited quantities.  You can easily miss it if you don't move now! Don't worry, you don't have to pay until it ships. If you don't know it, Milly is Michelle Smith of Connecticut and New York.  Graduate of FIT and late of Hermes, Paris. She has dressed several of the prominent celebs, like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow. 

Here's another Milly that looks hot to me. This one is in the current offerings at Nordstrom and is a delicious little top.  Milly Crochet Babydoll Top. Low front and back square neck. Short sleeves. Raised front and back yoke. Crocheted lace overlay. Isn't that a swishy little top? Nordstrom's item #208173 Priced at $220.00.

OK one more by an emerging designer.  This one by Iisli.  It's an Iisli 'Sophia' Camisole Dress just right for a New Year's Party. Spaghetti straps. Allover sparkling fabric. Lightweight  viscose knit. Nordstrom's item # 207789 and priced at $395.00Hurry on down now.  You've got time. Iisli is not well known, but the brand has earned a cult following. Their look is all about tailored cotton cashmere knitwear. They design all the fabrics themselves, from Italian-made yarns.Both the designers are originally from China. Sisi Li, a former choreographer and style consultant for Warner Brothers Music and Sony Music, is the creative voice for the brand. Nelson Li earned his stripes in Italy as a freelance design consultant.

OK - this may not belong on this page but it's here anyway because I just love this one and you probably will too if you have an adventurous streak in you somewhere. It's a Golden Goose leather jacket! Just take a look at this. It has snap closures at fold-over collar and off-center zipper closure at front. Zipper pocket at bust, snap-flap pocket at waist, and 2 zipper pockets at waist. Buckled strap detail at bottom hem and snap-tab epaulet at shoulders. Zippered gusset and stud details at cuffs.
